Ford Transmission Recall 2015

Truck Accidents | January 17, 2018

Are you a proud Ford owner? A nice American made F-150 or transit van that was probably less expensive than say the Toyota or Nissan version but had all the bells and whistles.

How could they afford to add all this stuff and be priced lower than their competitors? Well, it turns out they had to cut a few corners in the development process of their vehicles. As of late, Ford has faced millions of complaints due to faulty transmissions.

The transmissions have been accused of slipping out of the current gear that they’re in and causing the driver to lose control of their vehicle. This increases the chance of an individual being injured, paralyzed, or worse, resulting in death.

According to the Detroit Free Press, a little over 153,000 F-150’s were recalled in 2016 alone but shortly after an investigation, Federal Safety Officials are looking to widen the recall to over 1.4 million F-150″²s, expeditions, Lincoln navigators and other ford models that are thought to have suffered from transmission failure. Though this only concerns 2011, 2012, and 2013 models, the amount of people that had purchased these models and still operate them today is in the millions.

This sort of issue isn’t foreign to ford vehicles at all. In 2015, a class action lawsuit was filed against the Ford Motor company regarding their transmissions causing uncontrollable shaking in the 2012-2015 Ford Focus and the 2011-2015 Ford Fiesta. This left many drivers stranded, scared to drive their own vehicle, and forfeiting a lot of time due to repeatedly taking their car to the dealer to repair an issue that continued to repeat its self after the repair was made. For a billion-dollar motor company that has been operating since the early 20th century, this is just unacceptable in this day and age. These issues should have been uncovered during the research and development of these vehicles but instead they felt it was right to cut corners and put people’s lives at stake.

So, what does this mean? Imagine sitting at a stop light, you’re purely minding your business, flipping through Instagram, and thinking about what you’re going to have for dinner. Then out of nowhere, the F-150 slips out of its parking gear and smashes into the car in front of you or worse, shoots the vehicle into oncoming traffic. Then you’re stuck in a car accident that brings you at fault or puts your life in jeopardy.
