What Are the Safest Neighborhoods in Louisville, KY?
Louisville experiences thousands of crimes each year, like most U.S. cities. Although the number of crimes reported in the city has decreased slightly in recent years, crimes like homicides, assaults, and thefts still frequently occur in Louisville.

Where to Find the Safest Louisville Neighborhoods
Certain neighborhoods are characterized by low numbers of aggravated assaults, robberies, and homicides. Although other crimes still occurred in these areas, the absence of these more significant crimes means that residents and visitors can breathe easier than they might in other parts of the city.
Audubon
Travel south on I-65 and east of the interchange with US-60 (Alt) to find the Audubon neighborhood. In a recent year, the Louisville Metro Police reported only a handful of aggravated assaults in this area. Unlike other nearby neighborhoods like Merriwether, no robberies or homicides occurred here, making Audubon one of the safer areas of town.
Crescent Hill
Take US-60 east from Clifton, and you will reach Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Crescent Hill area. Aside from a single incident of domestic aggravated assault on Payne Street, the Crescent Hill neighborhood was devoid of other major criminal activity. However, as you travel toward Clifton and Clifton Heights, there is an increase in reported criminal activity.
Germantown
Located south of downtown Louisville and near the campus of the University of Louisville, the neighborhoods surrounding Germantown saw elevated levels of assaults and robberies in recent years. This includes the Paristown Point, Tyler Park, and Original Highlands neighborhoods. However, Germantown itself experienced only a few aggravated assaults and one sexual assault all year.
Shively, East Of I-264
The Shively neighborhood is southwest of the Louisville metro area. The portion just east of I-264 and west of US-60 should be considered relatively safe, especially south of Farnsley Road. Only one aggravated assault causing injury and one sexual assault were reported in the area. However, the Jacobs neighborhood to the east saw significantly higher crime levels.
Indian Hills And Riverwood
These two adjacent neighborhoods lie east of downtown Louisville and north of the Crescent Hills area. Like Crescent Hills, Indian Hills and Riverwood did not experience significant levels of violent crime besides a couple of reports of aggravated assaults. Residents and visitors to the area need not be as concerned about potential violent crime as in other parts of the city.
Irish Hill
Lexington Road is the prominent street that cuts through the Irish Hill neighborhood, which is just west of I-64. The general area surrounding Irish Hill saw significant numbers of aggravated assaults and robberies recently; however, Irish Hill itself did not. One aggravated assault on Spring Street and a few others near East Main Street were the extent of major crimes.
