Study: Nearly 80 Percent of Youth Feel Safe Vaping Despite Federal Ban

Product Liability | February 5, 2020

Despite tragic deaths, countless health risks, and a recent ban by the Food and Drug Administration, most young Americans are still stuck in their vaping habits. According to a recent study, by Harmony Healthcare, nearly 80% of Americans between 18 and 38 years old aren’t concerned about the negative health effects that come with actively vaping.

The study surveyed 1,800 of these Americans in order to get the truth behind vaping usage. Respondents were asked their thoughts on vaping and its popularity, considering the recent lung injury outbreak and the ban on flavored e-cigarette products. The study also included questions regarding cannabis and nicotine use, which proved significant differences and similarities in the way of which young Americans consume the two drugs.

The survey found that on average, users spend $97 on cannabis vaping products and only $55 on nicotine products. In regard to their health, 77% of those surveyed said they switched to vaping because they considered it to be healthier than smoking while less than 40% thought vaping was healthier than smoking marijuana.

The most complex result from the study pertained to how healthy users believe vaping to be, and how safe they feel using vape products. When asked if they believed vaping was unhealthy, 71% agreed that it was unhealthy. Despite vaping being unhealthy, 79% of the respondents still said they feel safe vaping. This could be due to the lack of information about these products, but it is alarming that our youth are misinformed.

Additionally, 60% of respondents said that vaping brands aren’t “doing enough” to prevent vaping related illnesses, and 62% claimed that the brands should, in fact, be held responsible.
